What is Secondary Sexual Characters

Secondary Sexual Characters:

These are external and internal characters that develop during puberty in both males and females between 14-18 years of age.

1. Male Secondary Sexual Characters:

i. Body becomes more muscular and shoulder becomes broad

ii. Beard and mustache develop in the face

iii. Hairs appear in the axilla, chest, lower abdomen, and pelvic region

iv. Penis increases in length and breadth

v. Scrotum becomes pigmented

What is Secondary Sexual Characters

vi. Testes, prostate gland, and Cowper’s gland are enlarged.

vii. Larynx and vocal cords are increased

viii. Voice becomes rough and deep

ix. Mind becomes active and aggressive

x. Attraction develops towards the opposite sex (female)

2. Female Secondary Sexual Characters:

i. Body becomes soft and attractive due to the deposition of subcutaneous fat.

ii. Skin becomes thin, soft, and smooth

iii. Mammary glands and vagina are enlarged

iv. Hairs appear in the axilla, pelvic region, and around the vulva

v. Pelvic region becomes broad

vi. Voice becomes high pitched

vii. Onset of menstruation

viii. Attraction develops towards the opposite sex (male)
