What is Binomial Nomenclature?

Binomial Nomenclature:

This type of nomenclature was first proposed by Carl Linnaeus in his book entitled “Species Plantarum” in 1758. These names had two parts:

  • Generic Name
  • Specific Name

Definition: This system of scientific naming of a species of plant or animal using genera as the first part and species as the second part is known as Binomial Nomenclature.
