Types of Pollination

Pollination:

The transference of pollen grain from the anther of the stamen to the stigma of the carpel of the same flower or of different flowers of the same plant or different plants of same species is called Pollination. The pollination process as an interaction between the flower and vector was first addressed in the 18th century by Christian Konard Sprengel.

Types of Pollination:

Pollination is of two types –

    i. Self Pollination

    ii. Cross-Pollination

Self Pollination:

The transference of pollen grains from the another of a flower to the stigma of the same flower or different flowers of the same plant is called self-pollination.

Example: Bolichos lablab, Mircbilis jalapa, etc.

Cross-Pollination:

The transference of pollen grains from the anther of one flower to the stigma of another flower borne on a different plant of the same species is called cross-pollination.

Example: Borassus flabellifer, Cucurbita maxima, etc.
